AirPlus, CRC, DERHOTEL, and SQUAKE support customers in calculating the carbon footprint of their hotel bookings

Corporate payment expert AirPlus International is now enabling customers to easily record their CO2 emissions when booking hotels via DERHOTEL and Corporate Rates Club (CRC). For travelers, this means that CO2 emissions are mapped consistently from the booking and payment process through to entry into their billing systems. This new approach is the result of a joint concept by the four partners AirPlus, CRC, DERHOTEL, and SQUAKE, and has been technically implemented at short notice.

Smart and simple payment solutions for enhanced transparency

Using the centralized AirPlus payment solutions, the CO2 value of hotel stays can easily be recorded during the booking process via an additional data field as soon as it is activated by the customer. The CO2 calculation is carried out by SQUAKE, a company that specializes in calculating CO2 emissions. These emissions are shown on the AirPlus statement for each hotel transaction – both in PDF format and electronically. The solution also allows travelers to view the CO2 emissions for each hotel before booking, enabling them to make more informed choices of where they stay. Combined with AirPlus Green Reports, which offer detailed CO2 reporting for business air travel, customers can enjoy deep insight into the environmental impact of their business trips.

As part of the mandatory expansion of sustainability reporting from January 01, 2024 in accordance with the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), AirPlus is continuously working to support customers with implementation.
